Sidney Smith enlisted in the 2nd Grenadier Guards on the 28th December 1897 aged 18 years and six months, he Arrive in South Africa on the 16th April 1900, he took part in the battle of Biddulphsburg and then in columns in the Orange free state, Sidney Smith died of enteric fever, on 10th March 1901 adged 21 years of age.
